I LOVE Halloween. It is my favorite holiday and I often think about what/who I am going to be that year…all year long. I’ve already talked about some of my past costumes (Amy Winehouse Item 19 or Anna from “Frozen” Item 22), but this Poison Ivy Costume I made kind of has my heart.
I try my best to go as red headed characters for Halloween. There aren’t many of them, so I think it’s fun to represent them.
Growing up, my younger siblings and I were obsessed with Batman. So I thought it would be awesome to go as Poison Ivy for Halloween 2010. (I think I also wore this costume out in 2013 or 2014 too, but I wore a few different costumes and mixed it up for different parties.)
This was special because I bought the green spandex dance suit and then glued some artificial ivy leaves onto it my mom had stored in the basement. It turned out pretty well and I’ve kept it around since then.
It’s been a great costume and I hope someone else will like it just as much!
I originally bought this mask while I was still living in my small hometown when I was invited to a co-worker’s masquerade themed party. I love parties, and I like dressing up, BUT I HATE MASKS. They hurt my face, they’re itchy, and end up giving me a headache.
But, I am a good sport. I got this mask from Party City so I didn’t pay much for it. It was prettier at the time. (I kept this stored with my Amy Winehouse Wig Item 19) The glue on it has yellowed some, but it’s still a pretty mask.
The last time I wore this mask was in July of 2013, when the guy I was seeing at the time invited me to a masquerade party in a brewery. It was fun, but I don’t think I wore the mask often that night. I probably wore it perched on my head the whole night.
I hate masquerade themed stuff. If I ever go another masquerade party, I’ll see if a friend has a mask I can borrow for the night.
Bye Masquerade Mask!
NOTE: I love this picture I drew. I spent a long time drawing it, although I’m not fond of the mask, I think I am honoring it greatly by this picture.
I mentioned previously that I used to teach elementary school kids. They were a lot of fun. One thing they constantly told me was that I looked like the character Anna from “Frozen”. I had my hair pretty heavily streaked blonde then, (and I am naturally red-headed). I didn’t know who that was until I eventually saw the movie.
That spring, we celebrated “March is Reading Month”. During that month we have lots of fun school-wide activities dedicated to reading. My favorite was “Teachers Gone Bananas” where the staff dresses up as a character from a book and then spends some time reading to students.
The music teacher and I decided to dress up as Anna and Elsa and together we read to the school’s kindergarteners and first graders. We definitely felt like celebrities! I’m pretty sure if Disney needs an Anna or Elsa park character, we’d be good for it!
It was one of my favorite memories teaching elementary school.
I’m going to be selling the costume this month. I would like to make some videos on me in the clothing items (that still fit!) to post on YouTube before I get rid of it. This costume has served me well.
This post is dedicated to one of my favorite musicians: Amy Winehouse.
I’m scheduling this post the day after the anniversary of her death six years ago.
When Amy passed away I was in the hospital with a kidney stone. It was a pretty bad day. I immediately decided I wanted to pay tribute to her that Halloween so I hunted down a wig. I wore it to two different Halloween parties that year (2011). I haven’t worn it since, so I’m going to be parting with it.
As an added bonus, here is a YouTube video of my favorite song featuring Amy, “Valerie”. (The artist is actually Mark Ronson).
